About Me

As a published writer and poet, I have a passion for merging words into poetry and prose, adding my own perceptions and perspectives, my thoughts and points of view. A friend once said, “Perception is reality.” I often thought about his simple mantra, wondered about its bigger picture, and added my own twist: “If perception is reality, then what is real.”  Something to ponder.

Most writing experts agree that in order to be a successful writer, one must have a platform and find their voice. Creating a platform seems easy enough — a website, a blog, social media presence — got it. How do I know what my voice is? Where do I find it? The search begins. But if I wait around until I find my voice, I may never write. Perhaps there is a better plan: I will write, and keep writing, and let my voice find me.

Branching out into the writing world, I’m the editor of a local writers group and produce a monthly newsletter as well as flyers. A member of three writing groups, I am also involved with an online poetry group, and a couple online writing venues. I’ve restructured resumes for a few clients and create copy for local websites and columns. My award-winning poems and short stories are published in local newsletters, books, poetry collections, an anthology, and on a grand scale, a story of mine will be published in an upcoming Chicken Soup for the Soul book.

My hobbies comprise a well-rounded hodgepodge of creativity. I dabble in art, crafts, reading, photography, cooking, baking, and crafts. We thrive on outdoor fun, whether a walk on the trails, bike rides, a hike in the park or kayaks on the lake, local festivals, fairs, or farmers markets, a stroll around the small town or the big city, or we just relax on our back porch. A healthy and active lifestyle mixed with treats works best for us. Dark chocolate and decaf lattes are my indulgences.

There isn’t a degree on my wall at this time, but I believe learning is a lifelong, daily process. Although I fight the imposter syndrome at times, educating myself with reliable sources and tools is something I do each day to further advance my creative avenues. Besides, a degree is not just for the young and aspiring college-bound student, but is an attainable goal at any age.

Mix a smidgeon each of ADD, OCD, anxiety, depression, worry, empathy, passion, sensitivity, compassion, humility, and humor, and it paints a picture of me. I am not defined by any one of these, but blended together, I think it makes a pretty amazing portrait.

I’m blessed with an adoring husband, loving family, two devoted doggies (our boys), and great friends, old and new. We call the Midwest our home, whether traipsing around big Lake Michigan, hanging out in our landlocked state, or visiting family and friends nearby. Enjoying life from our little corner of this big and wonderful world.

I hope you enjoy reading my words as much as I enjoy writing them! Thanks!
